Ethics & Fraud in the Business Envionment

Fraud is ever-present in businesses and organizations, and this can result in significant financial loss as well as loss in public trust. The ethical environment in an organization plays an important role in the prevention of fraud. With the heightened attention to corporate governance and transparency, it is even more important for executives and managers to cultivate an environment of high ethics and values, to develop an indepth awareness of fraud riske and also to take steps to minimize these risks. Businesses can no longer afford to be just reactive to fraud if and when it comes to light, but must make the reduction of financial loss due to fraud a key corporate objective and to build a corporate reputation as a high integrity organization.

Mr. Gordon Moore CPA, CIA, FCA, CA, President Sepia Associates LLC of Pennsylvania USA will conduct the workshop. Mr. Moore has over 40 years of experience in the industry and has worked in some of the world's largest and prestigious companies. He manages Sarbanes Oxley compliance for multi billion dollar international corporations, and is frequently a guest lecturer at Universities on Fraud and Ethics. Mr. Moore has published on the topic.

Seminar Objectives / Benefits

  • Build an awareness of the risk and exposure of businesses to fraud.
  • Identify the values and norms necessary for building a high integrity organization.
  • Understand the common frauds perpetrated in the business environment and implement more effective methods to detect and prevent frauds
  • Introduce digital analysis techniques to the workplace to aid in the detection of fraudulent activities.
  • Explore corporate governance and to gain some insight into the impact of the Sarbanes Oxley legislation (SOX) on SEC companies in the USA
  • Provide participants with generic control frameworks with the key controls for both manufacturing and banking/finance organizations including IT controls. This framework will be useful in reviewing and assessing your existing control frameworks and implementing additional controls within your organizations in order to minimise financial loss due to fraud
  • Introduce the use of a digital analysis technique in detecting fraud. Participants will receive a CD with our digital analysis software to augment existing fraud detection tools
  • The seminar fee is $BZ 300. Where an organization is sending 2 or more participantsthe fee is BZ$ 270. Fees includes all materials and meals.
    Registration starts at 8:30 am and the seminar is from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. 7 CPD hours accredited by ACAB will be awarded to participants.
    * During the seminar participants will be given the opportunity to see our digital analysis fraud detection software put to use. To facilitate this exercise and to bring home the application of this software, participants are kindly asked to bring with them a data file, containing the following information:- individual dollar amounts for accounts payable invoices for the past year or the individual loan write off amounts for the past few years. Additional fields such as date, vendor/loan number and branch may also be included. The data should be in excel format and saved to a flash drive. All confidential details should be omitted.
